On Friday, the magazine released a list of 31 individuals that could potentially grace the cover of the magazine's "Person of the Year" cover.
Other candidates include former Apple, Inc. CEO Steve Jobs, President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former International Monetary Fund boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
As of Saturday, "The 99%" was leading the "most-popular" poll as chosen by TIME's users, followed by the online hacker and activist group "Anonymous." Leading the "least-popular" poll among TIME readers included "The 1%," and GOP presidential candidates Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain.
In a disclaimer on its website, TIME says its editors reserve the right to disagree with the popular vote of its readers.
Past "Person of the Year" honors went to Adolf Hitler in 1938, Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, activist Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1963, former President Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1983 and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2010.
Everyone who had ever used the internet, dubbed "You," was proclaimed TIME's "Person of the Year" in 2006.
