The list was compiled by a panel of music experts and top guitar players.
The panel cited Hendrix's Purple Haze and his version of the Star-Spangled Banner as key tracks.
Hendrix is joined by the likes of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and Jeff Beck.
The full list will be featured in a special issue with four special covers and will be on newsstands and online this Friday.
