Heart, valor and kindness: Sgt. Sean Ferguson remembered

FRESNO, Calif.

Sgt. Sean Ferguson, 29, died of natural causes. At the time of his death, he was working in Baghdad providing security services for U.S. State Department officials.

In 2005, while recovering from an injury in Iraq, Ferguson received a surprise visit by then-Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. On a bedside table were examples of that quiet determination -- two purple hearts he received for his injuries.

Those who served with Ferguson remember him as a kind man with a contagious laugh. Sgt. John Welch said, "He is irreplaceable and he will be missed on and off the battlefield, he had a huge impact on my life. I am not ready to accept he's gone."

Sgt. Ferguson will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on December 14th with full military honors.
