S. Valley theater seeking national recognition

FRESNO, Calif.

Visalia's Fox Theater has been signature to the city's downtown skyline.

The general manager of the Fox is in the process of applying for the theater to be on the National Historic Register.

The application process takes up to nine months.

The manager says the theater has been a historical landmark in Visalia since it opened in 1930.

A national recognition could mean the theater would be eligible for up to $1 million in federal grant funding.

The money could be used to repair the Fox's 80-year-old electrical system.
