Law enforcement stepping-up holiday patrols

FRESNO, Calif.

On Wednesday they announced the launch of this year's Operation Christmas Presence.

Every year during the holidays, uniformed and undercover officers increase patrols at major shopping areas to make sure shoppers are safe during the busy holiday season.

"But unfortunately not only does it bring out shoppers it brings out prolific thieves and it also brings out opportunists. People who are out there waiting for an opportunity to victimize someone or to break into a car," Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

Combined teams consisting of more than one hundred law enforcement officers will be concentrating on area shopping centers.

This is the 15th year for Operation Christmas Presence.

It runs from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve.
