American Express' second annual campaign, Small Business Saturday, has these types of stores in mind. The campaign aims to get people to buy local.
Fresno State professor, Bill Rice says, "The small business can give you better customer service, probably better quality products, the price might not be the same as Walmart but it's giving you some connections where you can come back and talk and relate to these people because they are part of your community."
Antique store owners, Wanda Leon is grateful for every patron who walks through her doors. Leon says, the second annual campaign to promote shopping close to home is good for business.
She adds, "We have done very well last year and again this year. This year we have come close to doubling what we did last year, which is huge. That's a 100% increase over what we did last year."
