S. Valley mother accused under truancy law in court

FRESNO, Calif.

Victoria Jeff was supposed to be arraigned in a Kings County courtroom today under California's new truancy law.

Instead the 31-year-old told the judge she hired an attorney and was rescheduled to enter a plea next week.

Jeff is accused of failing to bring her children to school for several months.

She has been cited before for the same violation but this is the first time she's being charged.

Victoria Jeff declined to speak to Action News.

She is the first person in the county to be charged under the truancy law.
