Life sentence proposed for alleged kidnapper

FRESNO, Calif.

/*Gregory Gonzalez*/, 25, is charged with rape, indecent exposure and other crimes connected with the kidnapping which got national attention. Good Samaritan /*Victor Perez*/ was honored by then-governor Schwarzenegger for saving the 8-year-old girl.

Gonzalez could face life without the possibility of parole if he's found guilty at trial. After Thursday's hearing his attorney, Jim Lambe, told Action News he'd like to avoid trial.

He says he's willing to negotiate with the prosecutor, with a starting point of Gonzalez agreeing to plead guilty and take a life sentence -- with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Lambe says Gonzalez hasn't agreed to take any deal yet, and prosecutors have not offered one.
