Fresno firefighter had to be rescued during fire

FRESNO, Calif.

Crews rushed to the house on Lowe near Minnewawa around midnight. A family of eight lives there, and firefighters received initial reports that at least two children may not have made it out. They were later told two adults and a teenager were unaccounted for. Firefighters searched the home, but were not able to find anyone.

One of the firefighters became disoriented by the smoke and flames and had to call for help from inside the house. A rescue team went in and got him out safely.

Tony Escobedo with the Fresno City Fire Department said, "A firefighter is going to risk a lot if we know somebody is inside the house and that's the case today, 3 people reported inside, firefighters tolerated a lot harsh conditions to try to find somebody"

The battalion chief says it turns out one of the missing people was at a friend's house when the fire started, and all of the others made it out safely. The family is now staying with relatives. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
