Police say woman assaulted in Southwest Fresno store

FRESNO, Calif.

The shop is located at California and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Family members of the victim are pleading with the public to help them track down the suspects they say are responsible for raping and robbing a woman at a store.

Police taped off a portion of the parking lot in front of Shabazz's Shoes, Clothing and More after officers say a person was attacked inside at around 11:20 Tuesday morning.

"On arrival we found a single victim of a robbery had been injured during an assault," Lt. Burke Farrah of the Fresno Police Department said.

Several police detectives quickly searched the area, looking for any information to lead them to the suspects. While police are revealing very few details, a family member of the victim says he is distraught by what happened to her.

He says two suspects entered the store wearing gloves and masks before they sexually assaulted and robbed the victim. They're pleading with the public to help them find the suspects.

The incident has frightened people who frequent the small shopping center in Southwest Fresno.

"I'm scared because my mom works here a the laundry mat and she's here all the time. I'm afraid something like that could happen to her or worse," one woman told Action News.

Family members of the store owners tell us the store has never been victim of a crime before. They say it is a family-owned business that has been open for 4 years.
