19-year-old Anthony Allen is accused of killing his father, 51 year old Arnold Allen, during a heated dispute in their Merced home.
According to the sheriff's office, Arnold had been in and out of jail for several misdemeanors.
Family members say Arnold would argue with his two sons because he wanted a better life for them.
Investigators have also arrested Anthony's older brother in connection to the shooting, but are not yet sure what role he played in his father's death.
