Valley citrus growers again battling freeze

FRESNO, Calif.

Growers in Fresno County had wind machines at full blast Wednesday morning.

Misters sprayed water on the fruit to help prevent frost.

Growers near Dinuba are also taking measures to protect their fruits from freezing temperatures.

The preventative measures like the water and wind machines seem to be working.

While temperatures reached the mid twenties outside of the orchard, inside the temperatures stayed above thirty degrees.

These preventative efforts do come at a cost.

Growers estimate frost protection will end up costing at least two and a half times what it normally would compared to other years.
