Ag experts say the price hike is due to strong demand and lower-than-average volume coming from Central America. The U.S. gets most of its imported melons from Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica.

Prices are as high as $20 per case for Cantaloupes and Honeydew melons.

Tomato prices are dropping fast.

Ag experts say imported tomatoes from Mexico have raised the volume of available fruit in the U.S. Mexico is producing and shipping a lot of tomatoes to the U.S., and those large volumes have resulted in low prices at your local grocery store.

Produce experts say the U.S. has more tomatoes than they can sell.

Prices are at less than $9 per case.
