Old bridge in Downtown Fresno is coming down

FRESNO, Calif.

Built in 1948, it has been closed for about eight years because it's deteriorating. Thursday morning, the city council morning awarded a contract to tear down the old bridge -- which in the past was the site of several homeless encampments.

The job will go to Evans Brothers Incorporated of Livermore which put in a low bid of $968,000.

Demolition could begin in March, and is expected to be finish by the end of May.
