Hundreds attend the Chicano Youth Conference at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif.

Middle school and high school students are invited to attend the all day conference that features discussions on everything from financial aid to the political process. The conference is hosted by Fresno State students who are hoping to inspire younger generations to stay in school, and pursue a higher education.

"We're trying to put a stop to the dropout rate. But we're also trying to educate citizens. We're trying to make them better individuals with a lot of cultural capital so they can be productive in society," said conference organizer Luis Sanchez.

Students also had the chance to sit in on classroom presentations so they can better understand the college setting, while also learning about their culture.
