A record number of people there say they have no significant other and no interest in sex. And the situation has become so serious, the government is stepping in to play matchmaker. They've organized an event, complete with beauty tips for women, and dating role play for men.
Organizers hope the encounter will lead to more families with children. That's because a recent survey found more than half of Japanese men and women under 35-years-old are single.
And it all amounts to a national crisis for a country with declining birth rates.
