Mayor Ashley Swearengin proclaimed the month of February Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
Peer educators from the Marjaree Mason Center's Know More program broke out in a flash mob and danced to Aretha Franklin's "respect."
National studies show one in four high school students have been abused by someone they were dating.
"So we got out of our way to train peer educators that are placed in our high schools to work with those kids so that they can help if anybody is having a relationship issue, especially if there's bullying or violence related in that relationship," Pam Kallsen, director of the Marjaree Mason Center said.
The Know More program operates on nearly a dozen Fresno County high school campuses.
It's designed to use students to teach their peers about the difference between healthy and abusive relationships.
