$19 thousand missing from Clovis Boy Scout troop

FRESNO, Calif.

A /*Boy Scouts of America*/ executive told Action News -- a troop treasurer admitted to embezzling $19 thousand from Boy Scout troop 257 in Clovis.

On Tuesday, troop leaders were alerted by their bank - a check had bounced. /*John Richers*/ is CEO of the Sequoia Council, which oversees four-hundred Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops in the Valley.

"Well there's a trust level that obviously was endangered and that's difficult," said Richers. "Plus it's the operation of a Boy Scout troop, going to camp and their various activities and purchases of equipment etc. so it's a pretty big deal."

Clovis Police say no arrests have been made in the case. Richers says the troop treasurer assured him the missing money would be returned next week.
