Kerman teen allegedly hits 3 students with pick-up truck

FRESNO, Calif.

The incident happened just south of the school at the intersection of First and Middleton, just as classes were getting out on Friday.

Witnesses told police the 17-year-old driver was speeding as he made a right hand turn, striking the students in the cross walk.

Three teenagers were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Two have been treated and released, one is being held for observation.

Neighbors and police say students often speed through the area.

"The case is still under investigation, but speed might have had a part in what happened. He was taken into custody for wreckless driving and driving without a license," said Sgt. Ron Madrugu with the Kerman Police Department.

"What they're doing is they're showing off to their classmates -- and hollering, acting like kids.. But somebody got hurt," said Manuel Chavez of Kerman.

Police say the teenage suspect was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
