He's identified as 26-year-old Ronnie Chestnut.
Police believe he's responsible for a break-in at the JC Penny store at the Merced Mall early Saturday.
The store was ransacked and a few t-shirts were stolen.
Police questioned Chestnut Because they saw him riding his bicycle in the area.
They say Chestnut admitted to breaking into JC Penny and a jewelry store to support his drug habit.
Detectives believe Chestnut is responsible for burglaries at two jewelry stores and three banks in Merced in the past two weeks.
