Saturday's Polar Plunge raised money for The Special Olympics of Northern California. Teams from all over the Valley wore costumes as they headed to the lake. Some even took their costumes to another level, traveling in homemade vehicles, including a CHP cruiser!
While the event was in good fun, organizers say The Special Olympics organization can make a big difference in people's lives.
"People with intellectual disabilities, 10 percent are employed. 52 Percent of Special Olympic adults are employed. Special Olympics changes lives of people with intellectual disabilities," said Doreen Roth with the Special Olympics Northern California.
About 300 people took the plunge during Saturday's event and organizers estimate it raised about $30,000 for the organization.
