It is California law to wear a helmet while on a bicycle if you're under 18-years-old.
A rise in bicycle-related accidents this March has prompted Porterville Police to remind people about the law. In the first three weeks of March alone officers have responded to three separate accidents where a car has hit a child riding a bike without a helmet. In one case, a driver was getting off the highway at Henderson Avenue, when he struck a girl riding her bike against traffic.
Sgt. Richard Carrillo says parents can face hefty fines if their children continually don't wear their helmets when riding a bike.
If you need help making sure your helmet is fitted properly just contact the Porterville Police Department. An officer is willing to help make sure your helmet is fitted securely.
