Merced bus drivers call in sick after layoffs

FRESNO, Calif.

Parents say they received a phone message from the Merced Union High School District Thursday morning letting them know several bus drivers called in sick and they may need to find another way to get their children to school.

One bus driver told Action News she was calling in sick with migraines and stress due to the layoffs the night before. She also said many others made the same call this morning. The bus driver told Action News about four substitute bus drivers were available to transport students.

Action News North Valley Bureau reporter Sara Sandrik will have the classroom impact and district reaction on later editions of Action News.
