Visalia probation check turns criminal investigation

FRESNO, Calif.

The check happened in Visalia Wednesday morning on Court Street near Cypress Avenue.

The Tulare County Probation Department was checking on a 22-year-old man on probation for possession of cocaine. The department had information the suspect was selling drugs again.

Investigators also say the man failed to show up to his last two probation appointments.

When officers arrived at his apartment -- he barricaded himself inside and refused to open the door for officers.

"As I was guarding the door and he attempted again," Phil Lozano said. "He came back into the living room and he then attempted to rush the door and pull the slider on me at which time I took the subject into custody."

The suspect now faces new charges for violating his probation and possession of prescription drugs.
