Kingsburg Police officers given layoff extension

FRESNO, Calif.

Officers Matthew Wiebert and Michael Gonzalez were scheduled to be laid off Friday after the two sides failed to agree on wage and benefit concessions. That would have meant the department would drop in personnel from 14 to 12 officers.

So far the union has refused to extend it's 5-percent pay reductions, 30-percent health contribution and prohibit vacation cash payouts.

The city is asking the officers to take the concessions through December of this year in order to save $240 thousand. The two sides expect to have a decision by next Thursday.
