UC Merced students get glance inside legislative process

FRESNO, Calif.

The students traveled to the State Senate in Sacramento on Friday.

They sat in the seats of the legislators they've portrayed all semester as part of their California politics course.

The students considered bills on issues including gay marriage and the death penalty.

Some also played the roles of lobbyists and journalists.

Their course is being taught by political science professor Nathan Monroe and State Assembly candidate Adam Gray.
