Pacific Northwest may break record for cherry production

FRESNO, Calif.

Agriculture officials say the 2012 cherry crop in the Pacific Northwest is already higher than last year. Cherry growers say favorable weather leading up to the harvest may put this year's production above the record high in 2009.

Early estimates for cherries out of the Northwest are at almost 21-million boxes. The northwest cherry region is made up of growing areas in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Montana.
