San Onofre power plant may spark nuclear rule change

FRESNO, Calif.

The plant between Los Angeles and San Diego has been shut down for nearly four months. Investigators are trying to determine why tubing inside its steam generators eroded quickly. The tubing was carrying radioactive water.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairman says the rules might need to be changed in regards to how generators are installed.

Southern California Edison initially wanted to restart at least one reactor in June, but nuclear regulators say that appears unlikely.
