Diamond Sports Roundup: Central Perfection, 'Dogs and Grizzlies Fall

FRESNO, Calif.

The second-seeded Grizzlies with an overflow crowd on campus, and they got the scoring started early. Brittny Embrey's double to the wall in right center, scores Jilee Schanda to make it 1-0 Grizzlies.

Later in the inning Robin Alvara roped a double to the left field corner. Embrey and Rachel Rodriguez scored to make it 3-0 Central.

But offense wasn't the story in this one. Central pitcher Lindsey Clarkson pitched a perfect game, as Central wins the first Division I Softball championship in school history, 4-0 over Clovis West.

In Division II, Monache comes back on Clovis North, 6-4 on the road. Hanford West goes down to Bakersfield and shuts out Ridgeview, 4-0 in the Division III title game.

In Division IV it's the Fowler Redcats winning a thriller at Taft, 1-0. And Liberty of Madera Ranchos wins its fourth straight Division V softball title, 10-0 in five innings over Selma.

The Diamond Dogs are going to need to win their next three games if they want a shot at the NCAA Tournament. Sacramento State took care of Fresno State Friday night, 8-3 in the winners bracket game. But the WAC Tournament is double elimination, so the Bulldogs will now battle Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon in an elimination game. If they win that one, they'll face Sac State again at 7.

Back home in Fresno, a solid crowd for Friday Night Fireworks at Chukchansi Park saw Colorado Springs get getting on the board first. Chris Nelson's single to center scores Dallas Tarleton, 1-0 Sky Sox.

Grizzlies would try to mount a rally in the bottom half of the inning, a runner on third for Justin Christian, but Brandon Roberts comes up with the great catch on the flare to center to end the inning. That summed up the night for Fresno, as the Grizzlies fall at home, 5-1.
