Vigil held for man shot by Fresno Police

FRESNO, Calif.

About two dozen people gathered to remember 29-year-old Jaime Reyes. Family members say Reyes was unjustly killed.

The vigil was held outside Aynesworth Elementary at Chestnut and Cedar. Police say Reyes was shot there following repeated warnings to surrender...They say he also reached for his waistband several times.

Investigators said a family member had told police Reyes was armed with a handgun. Police say they knew Reyes was a Bulldog gang member -- and on parole.

"Regardless of however Jaime was labeled, as a Bulldog, he wasn't a harm to society. He wasn't a high risk parole, he was a very lovable individual," said family friend Matilda Otero.

Reyes was out on parole as part of the state's prison realignment plan.
