Boost for Valley law enforcement

FRESNO, Calif.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced funding awards for 17 agencies in California. They will receive more than $5.5 million for 33 officers.

Recipients include police departments in:
Chowchilla
Delano
Farmersville
Kerman
McFarland
Mendota
Merced
Tulare County Sheriff's Department

All new law enforcement positions funded must be filled by military veterans who have served at least 180 days since September 11th, 2001.

The COPS office will work with transition centers across the country to connect veterans with the new grant-funded law enforcement opportunities.
