Heat damages U.S. crops; record harvest still possible

FRESNO, Calif.

The U.S.D.A. now says drought affected corn crops in 18 states. Farmers in the hardest hit parts of the Midwest have been forced to cut down their crops midway through the growing season.

However, the U.S.D.A. reports the nation could still have one of the largest harvests in U.S. history, mainly thanks to new corn varieties that are more drought resistant.
