Highway 99 project in NW Fresno to ease traffic

FRESNO, Calif.

Plans for the Veterans Boulevard diagonal are moving forward. The three mile route would run from Grantland and Shaw northeast to Herndon and Polk with an interchange with Highway 99.

The Fresno City Council approved plans and agreements to get the project started. Assistant Public Works Director Scott Mozier says once completed it will ease traffic problems.

"I believe the community and motorists are well aware of the problems at Herndon and 99 and Shaw and 99," Mozier said. "Veterans Boulevard is the most cost effective way to fix the problems in that area."

With city approval Caltrans now takes over the project. It is expected to take six years to complete at a cost of $110 million.
