California peach farmers face labor shortage

FRESNO, Calif.

Farmers in the Sacramento Valley say they have fewer hands to pick peaches. Farmers say they're having trouble hiring enough people to fill harvest crews, and they're concerned about having enough experienced help when harvest peaks later this month.

Sacramento farmers are also dealing with smaller than average fruit. A new farmers report shows the crop headed to processing plants is the smallest in years because the hot weather slowed peach growth.
