Fresno Unified Hosts a Series of Immunization Clinics

FRESNO, Calif.

California law requires that all students entering the seventh through 12th grades must provide proof of the t-dap booster shot for pertussis, otherwise known as "whooping cough." The requirement includes students in both public and private schools.

Students who do not have proof of the vaccine will not be allowed in school at the start of the 2012 school year.

Fresno Unified has mobile units that will be traveling across the district to provide vaccination services for students.

All students starting kindergarten and 7th grade have immunization requirements before the start of school. Fresno Unified wants to make it easier for families to meet the requirements in order to ensure that all children are in school and ready to begin the new academic year on day one.

All students entering Kindergarten are required to have been vaccinated against Polio, DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus), MMR (mumps, measles and rubella), Hepatitis B, and Varicella (chickenpox). All students entering 7th grade have to show proof of vaccination against Pertussis (Whooping Cough/Tdap).

Starting Tuesday, August 14, Fresno Unified's Department of Health Services will host immunization clinics and be available to conduct well-child and sports physicals for students. The requirements to be vaccinated or see a certified medical professional for a physical are as follows: Immunizations for kindergarten and 7th grade No appointment necessary
