Merced high speed chase ends in arrest

FRESNO, Calif.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department says 28-year-old James Corbin was driving a stolen "Terminex" truck when he ran from deputies. Deputies say during the chase, Corbin crashed through a gate and sped through an elementary school, while children were playing. Corbin was eventually arrested after being pulled from a creek bed.

The chase began after a deputy spotted the stolen truck on Farmdale Avenue just south of Merced. The sheriff's office says at times, Corbin reached speeds up to 100 miles an hour. At one point he rammed the stolen truck into a deputy's patrol car.

Deputies say Corbin also drove onto a runway at the Merced Airport where he lost control of the truck and spun out.

No one was injured in the chase. Corbin is in jail facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
