Fresh food making school lunches healthier

CLOVIS, Calif.

The district gradually changed its menu over the last year to make school lunches healthier, and the transition to the new guidelines a lot smoother.

There are new meal requirements for school lunches set by the U.S.D.A. The plan is to increase the number of fruits and veggies and whole grains available to students.

Starting next year, California schools must reduce sodium levels in school meals. One of the ways Clovis Unified is doing that is by serving fresh foods rather than canned which has a higher sodium content.

They still a little bit of work to do, but Clovis Unified is off to a good start.
