Officers went to the area of Thorne and Dennett just before noon after getting reports of someone shooting from a white Jeep Cherokee.
Police say the suspect, 26-year-old Michael Mendez, crashed into a fire hydrant about four blocks away, but kept firing. Officers eventually found Mendez inside a nearby home.
"He had come out of a house on fruit when we made contact with him. He was confrontational. We took him into custody without incident. Again we found the weapon a couple houses south of there on the front lawn," Sgt. Andy Mercado of the Fresno Police Department said.
Investigators say no one was hurt by the gunfire. Mendez is now booked into jail on multiple charges, including driving under the influence and reckless discharge of a handgun.
