Ag officials say this year's crop is expected to reach 20-million pounds -- a 30-percent jump over last year. Growers say this year's harvest is of very high quality, and the fruit is looking juicy and plump.

The harvest is still underway in several parts of the state. Ag officials say European and Asian countries are buying record numbers of California fresh dates driving farmers to grow more acres of dates.
