Tulare school bus drivers receive safety training

FRESNO, Calif.

Dozens of drivers watched the response to a simulated crash between a school bus and a train on Cedar near H Street in Tulare. Firefighters, EMTs, and law enforcement officers practiced rescuing victims from the mock accident.

Organizers say this training reminds bus drivers to be extra careful when crossing train tracks and helps them prepare for the worst case scenario.

"This is something we all hope not to happen, but in case it does we want to be well prepared," Director of Transportation Robert Zamarripa said.

"We're trained all the time, and it's good to see it in action and to know what to do," Tulare school bus driver Sarah Summers said.

Along with this crash simulation, the Tulare Police SWAT team also practiced responding to a bus hijacking.
