Fresno police officers help deliver baby girl

FRESNO, Calif.

It happened in the area of Peach and Tulare just before 6 p.m. Friday night.

Action News visited mom Jennifer James and baby Elsie Grace at Clovis Community Medical Center on Friday.

Jennifer says she was headed to the hospital with her sister in law, when she realized she wasn't going to make it.

Luckily a Fresno police officer and an ambulance were nearby to help. Within minutes Elsie was born.

"To be able to have done that in the car. I'm like talking these guys trough because it was their first time ever delivering a baby. It's like' I'm going to push now are you guys going to catch her, are you ready?' And they were awesome and we got to get to pictures with them afterward. Yeah I'm still on a little bit of a high. It's crazy," mother Jennifer James said.

Jennifer tells us the officer helped unwrap the umbilical cord from around baby Elsie's head. He even stopped by the hospital to wish the family well.

The parents say they feel very lucky that so many people stepped in to help and now they have a great story to tell little Elsie one day.
