Guinness World Record attempt in Visalia

FRESNO, Calif.

132 people ran 100 meters and donated their shoes to help National Geographic Kids Magazine set two different world records. The first is for the most people to run 100 meters in 24 hours. The second is to have the longest chain of shoes. The shoes will be shipped off to the National Geographic Society headquarters. The shoes will later be recycled and used to make athletic surfaces.

Friday's events were spearheaded by a Grace Christian third grader who wanted to encourage people to be active.

"I thought it would be a good idea to get my friends involved and tell them it's okay to be healthy," Ciera Sesock said. "I think we did pretty good!"

More than five-thousand people around the world need to run 100 meters between noon Friday and noon Saturday in order to break the record.
