California conditions right for sweet oranges

A new variety of navel oranges is coming to a store near you.

The navels at the Lobue Brothers Packing in Lindsay are part of a citrus crop growing in Kern County this summer. The growers say the oranges are sweeter thanks to the summer heat which has caused them to mature sooner.

The oranges are the result of seven years of research into "the California standard" which produces a tasty balance of sugar and acid.
