Guilty verdict in Kingsburg Shell station murder

FRESNO, Calif.

Diane Franco said, "We the people in the above titled action find the defendant, Maninder Kaila, guilty of PC 187(A), first degree murder."

Jurors took about two hours to reach the guilty verdict against Kaila.

The store clerk admitted on the witness stand that he shot Parmajit "Paul" Singh, his boss and distant cousin. But he claimed he was provoked when Singh threatened him with a gun the night before at the store. Prosecutor Lynmarc Jenkins pointed out that the deadly shooting happened more than seven hours later.

The 56-year-old will serve a life sentence and because he used a gun, he won't be eligible for parole until he serves 50 years.
