Commander Steve Rossi tells Action News, local residents came to the police department to report that a man was armed, and threatening to harm himself and others.
Officers repeatedly tried to contact the man. When that didn't work, they sent the swat team. Negotiators spent about 6 hours talking to the man via loudspeaker and through a ground phone. The man surrendered to police and is still being questioned.
Commander Rossi says the situation is extremely demanding on police and swat teams. "it's very tense, the hostage negotiators and our officers have to be very careful what they say to make sure they don't say something to trigger a violent reaction for the subject's safety, for our safety, for the resident's safety".
Dozens of residents who live near the mobile home in question- were evacuated for their own safety.
