A late night fire that forced a family of six out of their Northwest Fresno home is under investigation.

The Fresno Fire Department said the flames broke out inside an empty room of a home on Rialto near Gettysburg around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities say half a dozen people including a baby were inside the house when the fire started. Everyone made it out safely but the family's cat was injured.

Fresno fire said the family did not have any working smoke detectors, and a crying baby alerted them to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
