Hundreds of jobs available at Alorica facility

FRESNO, Calif.

The opportunities come after new unemployment numbers were released.

All of the Valley counties saw at least a one-point improvement led by Fresno, Madera and Tulare Counties.

The Alorica call center in Fresno and Clovis is expanding to meet the growing needs of one of its top clients. It means several hundred Valley residents have the chance to get back to work.

"We're hiring about 400 people, but for every 12 people we hire, we do hire a management position, so they'll be lots of management and administrative positions that we'll be hiring for as well," John Foulk, Alorica site director, said.

The jobs will be answering incoming calls for a major telecommunications company about billing questions, technical support questions and customer care issues.

Nannette Potter is the regional manager for the employment development department, she says the new jobs are much needed. She expects the unemployment numbers to remain consistent over the next several months.

"It is hard to predict, the trend is that the unemployment rate will continue to go up during the winter months and then will start to come back down again in either March or April of next year," Potter said.

The lines are still steady at places like the EDD. Many people who are unemployed are especially desperate to work during the holiday season. The past few months, many of the new jobs created were retail positions- and those related to leisure and hospitality.

One more thing potter has noticed recently are businesses coming to the Central Valley, to lure job seekers away for a permanent job.

"Specifically we've had companies from Alaska, coming in and recruiting so there are jobs if people are willing to leave but Alaska is a long ways from home- but there are jobs available," Potter said.

New jobs are especially needed this time of year to make up for the hundreds of jobs lost in the farm industry. Those farm laborers who are unemployed and waiting to work again for spring harvests.

If you're interested in a position with Alorica you can apply at a job fair Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 in the evening at the company's Clovis headquarters at 170 W. Shaw Avenue, suite B.
