Thousands lined up for holiday dinner in Madera

MADERA, Calif.

Chowchilla Prison employees spent the year fundraising for the meal, and they have been cooking since last weekend. A total of 40, 16 pound turkeys served about 1,500 people. Santa was on hand, as were folklorico dancers and musicians.

Prison workers say this is just one of the ways in which they give back. "We do see a lot of bad things, but there's a lot of positive things in prisons as well. One of the things for us; we're still employed, live well, and we want to give back. We want to be a part of Madera and Chowchilla so they know we're here," said Tony Martinez, Chicano Correctional Workers Association.

Hundreds of volunteers helped serve the meals, including athletes from Madera South High School.
