Milk prices approved for an increase

FRESNO, Calif.

For months, producers urged the State Department of Food and Agriculture to raise prices paid for milk, cheese and other dairy products.

On Tuesday, the agency agreed to an increase of about 3 cents per gallon.

Many farmers say the new prices are still too low. State dairy producers were hard hit by last year's drought and skyrocketing feed costs.

They continue to urge state agriculture officials to bring prices closer to a federal milk pricing system.
