Honoring Trailblazers in the Valley

FRESNO, Calif.

This ceremony at the golden palace banquet hall in Fresno is part of the local black history month celebration.

The African American Historical and Cultural Museum of The San Joaquin Valley recognized individuals who have made lasting contributions to the community.

For example, one of the trailblazers was the first African American woman to graduate from Fresno State's nursing program.

Executive Director Gregory Melancon said, "It is important to leave the legacy for our children in our neighborhood and know the people who fought for us."

The ceremony also included a silent auction.
